Welcome!![]() Ethics Is Our Religion Notable QuotesTo listen is to continually give up all expectation and to give our attention, completely and freshly, to what is before us, not really knowing what we will hear or what that will mean. In the practice of our days, to listen is to lean in, softly, with a willingness to be changed by what we hear. Member Login |
Moral Development of Children -- Fritz Williams04/27/2008 - 11:00am The Northern Virginia Ethical Society honors the legacy of Jerry Ziskind, beloved teacher and President of the Northern Virginia Ethical Society. Fritz Williams, emeritus Leader of the Baltimore Ethical Society will speak on "Room to Grow." Just as Jerry created a classroom environment to educate the whole child, Fritz believes that parents should provide a home environment that encourages mutual respect, give-and-take exchanges, and moral instruction through everyday experiences. At 2:00 p.m. the same day Fritz will lead a workshop for parents, middle- and high-school students called "The High Art of Making Mistakes Openly" at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street, Vienna, VA. Mistakes are very common human experiences that should be acknowledged by parents when they make them with their children. This approach reinforces open communication between parents and children, and helps children understand that risk-taking and errors are an acceptable cost of living a full life. The workshop will include a short segment of the acclaimed PBS broadcast, "The Parenting Puzzle", and a discussion on how to ensure open dialogue between family members. Childcare will be provided for those who sign up in advance with Lynn Konnerth. Her telephone number is (703) 503-3216. All families interested in this workshop are more than welcome to attend. |
