Jack DuVall, President of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict, will discuss nonviolent resistance and how it is applied in a wide variety of political and social conflicts, in which ordinary people use tactics such as petitions, walkouts, and mass demonstrations; acts of noncooperation including boycotts, official resignations and general strikes; and direct intervention such as sit-ins, blockades and economic disruption – all for the purpose of overturning oppression and winning their rights. How can we, as individuals committed to human rights, help promote the use of these powerful -- but often under-appreciated -- tools more effectively?
